Legendary stories of the high seas, buried treasure, and villains with peg legs and eye patches- what’s not to love in a pirate story? Whenever I bring a pirate themed picture book to one of my young learners’ creative writing classes, we always have a whale of a time. We play videos of stormy seas and mysterious shores to set the tone for the lesson. Then, my students work in groups studying yellowed maps, solving clues that would lead them to hidden treasures. If I inform them in advance, my students would even turn up dressed as Jack Sparrows and Pirate Princesses.
