A Day Out- Shiv’s Story

Welcome to our series featuring stories written by students in our Common Room classes. Our course instructors provide feedback at every stage of the writing process, ensuring it’s suitable for their age.

We value and celebrate each child’s unique writing style, ensuring minimal edits to their stories to preserve and showcase their creativity. Here’s a story written by 8-year-old Shiv from Miss Shikha’s class. We’d love to hear your thoughts—do share your appreciation in the comments!

It was a lazy afternoon in Odo, a beautiful countryside, with flowers and wide meadows. Shawn and Agustus were walking down a path to a sweet shop.

About the Author

Shiv Singh Dhillon lives in Chandigarh, India with his parents, grandparents and two naughty dogs. The most unusual thing about him is he doesn’t like watching movies. His worst fear is lizards. He loves playing football and his biggest ambition is to play football at international levels for India.

They bought some sweets and then headed towards their friend Stan’s house. They were chatting to each other and they didn’t notice a log on the path.

They stumbled over the log and fell into a river with high currents. “Ahh!”, cried Shawn. “We should have listened to mum”, said Agustus. “Yea she told us to look where we are going”, said Shawn.

Soon the river threw them on the river bank where a four- feet long crocodile was sleeping. Luckily, the river had pushed them away from the crocodile. “Phew!”, said Shawn relieved.

Unfortunately, they landed next to a waterfall, tumbling next to a pond. They swam away from the waterfall and saw an abandoned boat and reached it.

They found two oars inside the boat. “Paddle!” yelled Agustus. They both reached the other side of the river and hopped out of the boat and ran to their friend’s house.

They learned their lesson to be more careful in the future.
