Fantasy Vocabulary List

Diving into an unfamiliar genre, especially with writing, can be challenging when you aren’t familiar with the specific themes and language used in that setting. Given below are words and some themes that you can use to begin writing a fantasy story. You need not use all the words or themes but pick a few that you feel like including in your story.

For example: Portal, prophecy & guardian – time travel

Tia heard a buzzing sound coming from the kitchen and she knew it wasn’t the refrigerator this time, because the electrician had come this afternoon and fixed it. As she inched towards the kitchen, she heard whispers slipping through the half closed door. “There’s no way I can become a guardian when I am still learning how to use…..” “…. no option but to depend…” “No one will believe…. cursed prophecy…” Tia got down on her knees and hands and began crawling towards the door. As she peeked through the gap she was struck by a blinding light emanating from the center of the kitchen. A large hole that looked like a portal was pulsing with green light and 2 people were conversing right in front of it.
