Growing up in Kerala in the 90s, camping was an uncommon pursuit among the children of my hometown. As a child, my understanding of camping was shaped by the captivating books I read, particularly the exciting tales of the Famous Five going off to camp. Movies like The Parent Trap also played a part, igniting my imagination with visions of outdoor exploration and the joys of camping. I always dreamed of sleeping under the stars and roasting marshmallows over a campfire, but I never got an opportunity to experience its wonders firsthand.
However, times have changed, and now many of my students have been on Himalayan camps and treks. Witnessing this remarkable shift in trends, I felt inspired to manifest my childhood dreams through Common Room, my brainchild. I still remember my initial vision board being adorned with fervent notes for a camping-themed workshop. Before long, The Camping Trip workshop came to fruition, becoming a cherished Saturday event that breathes life into the joys of camping.
