On a gloomy morning at Lans Bookstore, Lan was thunderstruck when he realized that his most prized possession, the book, was missing. Freckle-faced Lan had two friends, Lacy and William. Lacy was a pet lover who helped Lan by taking care of his dog. She was obsessed with the book that Lan had but was also very happy for him. William was a gallant and sharp detective who had an interest in acting and theater. Marc, Lacy’s cousin, was disobedient, lazy, and never did any work.
Lans Bookstore was on Lane Road, opposite the cherry garden beside the bakery. It was the happening place in the city and had a collection of books, among which was Lan’s most prized possession, passed down through generations in his family.
Lan pleaded with William to come over to his bookstore to find out who stole his book. William replied that they should go and ask Lacy about it as he found her suspicious. Lan and William questioned Lacy. She was very hurt that her friends suspected her out of all people and told Lan that she was not responsible for his dog anymore, and that she did not steal the book. Lan and William left for the bookstore to look for clues. While they were searching, they found a hanky, a button, and a smudged bill. The next day, Marc casually walked into the store and had a conversation with Lan as he was not aware of the missing book.
Lan noticed that one of the buttons from Marc’s jacket was missing. The other buttons on his jacket were similar to the button they had found as a clue. Lan wanted confirmation that Marc had stolen his book. So, Lan casually asked Marc what he was doing on the day the book went missing. Marc was contemplating what to say while Lan confirmed that he was the thief who stole the book.
Lan confronted Marc, and Marc confessed that he was the one who stole the book. Lan was astonished and, on the other hand, very glad that he would get his book back. Marc returned the book in guilt and apologized to Lan.
From then on, Lan was mindful and careful to avoid such incidents, and his store became the best bookstore in the city!
