“Anjaly ma’am, what is Valemtine’s Day?”, asked my student Zain* who is just turning 7, with the most innocent expression on her face. “Valentine’s Day is a special day to express love and gratitude towards your loved ones”, I explained, quite amused by her curious expressions, but Zain didn’t look convinced.
“Do children celebrate Valentine’s Day?”… “I’ve heard people write letters on Valentine’s Day”… “My father has a surprise for my mother on Valentine’s Day”… questions and answers started pouring in from my inquisitive bunch of 7 year olds. Since they seemed quite interested in the topic, I decided to do an impromptu lesson on Valentine’s Day, and it was a hit to say the least.
